L’AUBERGE DES MIGRANTS

Marion Osmont

Still many to attempt the crossing to England, hundreds of men and women – Iranians, Afghans,
Kurds, Eritreans, Sudanese and Syrians – who have fled conflict and persecution in their homelands, survive in Calais
and in the Pale of Calais in extreme material, health and administrative precariousness.

L’Auberge des Migrants has been taking action for them since 2008.

Currently, it coordinates the action of 7 NGOs to collect and distribute meals, clothing and shelter.

The project L’Auberge des migrants indeed distributes between 1000 and 1500 meals per day at four distribution points in Calais, and in the migrants’ living areas in Grande-Synthe. As the tarpaulins and tents which are used to shelter migrants are routinely destroyed by law enforcement agencies, L’Auberge conducts a daily round to replace them. Twice a week, the Association distributes warm clothing, shoes, and hygiene kits in migrants’ different living areas in Calais and Grande-Synthe. The association also works to collect information and speak out to public authorities - report denouncing police pressure, referral in defense of the exiled populations’ fundamental rights.
Our engagement The team is composed of 2 employees and 50 to 80 volunteers on the ground every day. They come from countries all around the world such as England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, the United States, Canada and Singapore. In term of logistics, the association has a vast storage hangar which it provides to associations in Dunkirk (Salam Dunkirk, Emmaus) and 12 vehicles. Since 2018, our support totaled 60,000 €.
