Urgence Sumatra

On 7 December 2016, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Aceh province in Sumatra, causing 100 deaths and injuring 700. Many people were trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings, according to local authorities.

This province, which is located at the northern tip of the Sumatra Island, had been devastated in 2004 by an undersea earthquake which caused a massive tsunami.



The project The Indonesian association, Yagasu, which works to preserve the environment by restoring mangrove forests, has been mobilized to help earthquake victims. The association which has been present for over 16 years in Indonesia has been fighting for the rehabilitation of mangrove forests, a true reservoir of biodiversity and a natural rampart against storms and earthquakes in order to protect the villages. Emergency material, food, blankets, kitchen and first aid equipment have been distributed to respond to the most urgent needs.   Our support In 2016, our commitment totaled 3,000 €
