EMERGENCY IN HAITI

On 12 January 2010, Haiti was the victim of a 7.0-magnitude earthquake. According to the official figures, the earthquake caused the death of at least 230,000 people, and injured 300,000 and rendered over a million people homeless.

 



The project Action Against Hunger (ACF) has set up outpatient nutritional centers, organized training programs for malnutrition care, opened psychological consultations, distributed basic necessity kits, food rations, drinking water, and set up sanitary facilities. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has practiced vital surgical operations, administered post-operative care and psychological care, and set up sanitary facilities to improve the living conditions of the displaced. Pain Without Borders (DSF) has organized the shipment and distribution of morphine, set up pain management training programs and opened psychological consultations for the health care staff. SOS Children's Village emergency in Haiti, which has been active in Haiti since 1979, supported 4000 children before the earthquake. Hundreds of additional children have been welcomed by SOS families; a food provision program for tens of thousands of children has been initiated. Our engagement In 2010, our commitment totaled 27,000 €.
